The Project:

Route Section:

A Route Selection Study/Report was proposed which examined various route options within a route corridor based on the recommended road network identified in the 1997 feasibility study carried out by Ewbank Preece O’hEocha.

To effectively compare the route options, the study area was divided into four sections.

  • Kilmeaden Section – Nine route options were assessed. Following detailed examination of the negative impacts on each option a preferred route was selected.
  • Western Section – One route option emerged as the preferred route.
  • Suir Crossing Section – Three route options were assessed in this section. A clear preference for one route option emerged from the detailed study undertaken.
  • Northern Section – Three options were assessed. The preferred route allowed for the Bypass of Slieverue Village, best option for Port traffic and would allow for grade separation of the tie-in with the existing N25 and continuity of the line.
