Bee Keeping Talk
Browns Road Library, Tuesday 7th May 3:00pm - 4:00pm
With bees now under threat, Beekeeper,  Mike Hughes secretary of the East Waterford Beekeeping Association will give a talk on beekeeping from his own experience. Followed by a talk from Bobby Power, who will discuss plants and flowers suitable for bees.  Booking essential.


Tales and Talk at Ardkeen Library
As part of the Parent and Toddler Group events at Ardkeen Library there will be two activities this May. Maire Cook of Waterford Childcare Committee will host a storytelling session on Wednesday 8th May and Lisa Shine Speech and Language therapist will give a talk on Friday 17th May.  Both events will be at 10.30am and all are welcome.

Maire’s session will focus on reading stories and extension activities that can be used with your child to enhance the reading experience. Extensions activities can include using props, nursery rhymes and colouring activities.

Lisa will talk about how reading and talking with your baby, toddler, child throughout their upbringing can improve their speech and language development. Lisa will also talk about childhood developmental milestones, red flags to watch for and strategies to support a child’s speech-language and communication development.

Making Health our Business – Mayors Health Day
As part of the Bealtaine Festival 2013 Waterford City Council Library Services have designated May as Healthy Mind/Healthy Body month, with a series of health demonstrations and talks during the festival. Events are happening throughout May in all three library branches and include demonstrations of Chair/Floor Yoga with Adrianne Murphy, Pilates with Charlotte Hughes and a series of Nutrition talks with Barbara Boland.

Healthy Mind/Healthy Body - Adrianne Murphy will demonstrate simple Chair and Floor Yoga exercises. Mats will be provided.

Creative Cookery
Sean Mulvaney, owner of “Café Lucia” and Poppy’s” restaurants, will use fresh ingredients to give this cookery demonstration a very creative happy twist to our food. Hosted by Europe Direct Information Centre.

The Waterford Europe Direct Centre at Central Library will be hosting free computers classes for over 55s who have little or no computer experience. The classes are run by Age Action.

Senior’s Art Group Exhibition
This exhibition will run in the Index Gallery, as part of the Bealtaine Festival, from Tuesday 7th until Saturday 18th May and features a selection of works in a variety of mediums by local artists. The exhibition will be launched by the Mayor of Waterford City on Tuesday 7th May at 11am. The exhibition is curated by Berna Lawton.


Index Gallery, Central Library
29th May – 14th June 2013
The Bealtaine Exhibition of art works and photography produced during the Bealtaine Festival will be exhibited in the Index Gallery from 29th May to 14th June. The exhibition will be launched by the Mayor of Waterford City during the Dusk Chorus Celebration on Wednesday 29th May at 6pm. This night of song, wine and cheese hosted by the Europe Direct Information Centre, is a chance for all to come and celebrate the end of the Bealtaine Festival and an opportunity for the library to say thank-you to all who took part. During this evening, there will be a performance from our very own Library “Bealtaine Choir”.    All are Welcome!


The Waterford Healing Arts Trust presents ‘Anamnesis’, an exhibition of new works by Marie Brett
Index Gallery, Central Library, 23rd April – 3rd May 2013
The Waterford Healing Arts Trust is delighted to present an exhibition of new works by West Cork based artist Marie Brett entitled ‘Anamnesis’ in The Index Gallery, Waterford Central Library from 23rd April until 3rd May.
This exhibition results from the ‘Amulet project’, a process of collaboration between the artist and women who have experienced pregnancy and infant loss and explores ideas around the use of amulets or keepsakes to commemorate infant loss. The Amulet project was informed by a two year research phase she led in partnership with Cork University Maternity Hospital and subsequent collaboration with bereaved parents in partnership with Cork University Maternity Hospital Cork, Waterford   Regional Hospital / Waterford Healing Arts Trust and the Mid-western Regional   Maternity Hospital in Limerick.


Free Bealtaine Festival talks on the Golden Era of Céilí Music
A talk on ‘The Golden Era of Céilí Music and Dance 1955 – 1970’ will take place on Saturday May 4th 2013 in Waterford Central Library, Lady Lane, Waterford city at 11 am followed by an afternoon session at 3pm in the Old Market House Arts    Centre, Dungarvan, Co. Waterford.
The talk will be presented by Brian Lawler, the founder of the Ardellis Céilí Band. The talk consists of a review of an audio archive project which Brian completed in association with the Irish Traditional Archive over a five year period. Also included, will be samples of the music of some of the most popular ceili bands of the era.
All are welcome and admission is free as this is part of the Bealtaine activities –
Celebrating Creativity As We Age from Waterford City Library and the County  Waterford Arts Office.

Waterford Inner City Parent & Toddler Group
Central Library
Tuesdays 10:00am - 12:00noon
The Waterford Inner City Parent & Toddler Group run by St. Brigid’s Family and Community   Centre in partnership with Waterford City Council Central Library, takes place every Tuesday in the Children’s Corner of Central Library, Lady Lane from 10:30am to 12:00 noon.
