Accessible Library Services

We aim to provide services that are open and accessible to all sections of the community.

We are doing this through the following areas of our work:

Stock:
Central, Ardkeen and Browns Road Libraries all have a selection of Large Print books, books on tape and CD, and literacy materials. We are also introducing a selection of stock in different languages for adults, starting with Polish, and our bi-lingual collection in a selection of languages for children. Our music and book lending collections reflect the needs of our changing community with books by authors from around the world and a large selection of world music. Access to the internet is available in all library branches to library members.

Events, book clubs and activities:
Our library events, book clubs and other activities are open to all.

Equipment:
Central and Ardkeen Libraries have listening posts at ground floor level. Optical scanning facilities are available in Central and Ardkeen Libraries. Magnifying sheets are available in Central Library. Wheelchairs are available in all library branches for use by the public.

Our buildings:
Central Library was awarded the Excellence Through Accessibility (Quality Mark) in 2007. This involved the introduction of extensive improvements to the accessibility of the building including refurbishing the existing lift, highlighting stairs and landing areas, the introduction of an accessible toilet, new signage and a new induction loop.
