Services for Schools
Waterford City Council Library Service offers a lending and advisory service to primary and secondary schools in the city. There are also general activities & events that are continuously organised by the School’s Service throughout the year.
- We offer advice on book purchasing, setting up school libraries, recommended reading lists etc.
- We organize class visits to the library for tours for primary & secondary schools, storytelling, games and quizzes to promote library skills.
- We organise annual events such as Children’s Book Festival in which individual classes are invited to attend Author visits and other book based events.
- For Secondary school students we offer Local History Room Tours & Practical Research Training. Find out how to use the 1901 & 1911 Census, Research your family history, search old newspapers and Maps (On Line & Hardcopy)
- Exhibition space & our Index Gallery are available in Central Library for any classes who want to display their work to the public.

Services for Teachers
Waterford City Council Library Service has a specialised membership for persons working in educational, social and cultural institutions.
This membership entitles you to borrow multiple items from any of Waterford City Council Libraries.
- Membership is free
- Items can be borrowed from any of our lending collections
- Up to 50 items can be borrowed at a time
- The loan period is 90 days for all book items and 1 week for non book materials
- Fines will not accumulate on any items borrowed
Teachers Resource Collection
This is a collection specifically for use by teachers and those working in education
This collection contains
- Resources for teachers to use in the classroom
- Resources which are of interest to teachers and which support their work
- Books, Photocopiable Materials nd teaching packs.
- Special Needs materials
- Multiple copies of popular novels
