Developers or builders normally make a financial contribution to the provision or maintenance of utilities and infrastructure (e.g. roads, electricity, water supply ...), when a new development takes place.
The Development Contribution Scheme determines financial contributions in respect of public infrastructure and facilities benefiting development in the area, and that is provided or that it is intended will be provided, by or on behalf of the local authority.
The Development Contribution Scheme is a scheme adopted under Section 48 of the Planning Act, 2000.
The planning authority, when granting permission, may include conditions requiring the payment of the relevant contributions.
