  • What documentation do I need to apply for a 1st Provisional Driving Licence ?

    You need the following :

  • - Driver Theory Test Certificate
  • - Provisional Licence Application Form, completed and signed
  • - Eyesight Report Form, for 1st ever licensing or if there is a need for you to wear corrective lenses.
  • - 2 identical passport sized photographs, signed on the reverse side
  • - Fee [ 1 or 2 year € 15 ]

  • A Medical Report Form may be necessary in certain circumstances, namely :

  • - When applying for a provisional driving licence in categories C, CI, D, D1, EC, EC1, ED or ED1
  • - When the applicant is over 70 years of age

  • If the applicant has a medical condition :
  • - Birth certificate or passport

    - Marriage certificate required where a change of name exists.




  • What documentation do I need to submit to apply for a 2nd provisional Driving Licence ?
  • If this driving licence application is a renewal of the same categories as your previous licence, the following is required:

  • - Provisional Licence Application Form, - completed and signed
  • - Expired Provisional Driving Licence
  • - 2 identical passport sized photographs, signed on the reverse
  • - Fee [ 1 or 2 year € 15 ]



  • How do I apply to have my name and / or address changed on my current Provisional Driving Licence ?

    You need the following:

  • - Current Provisional Licence
  • - Provisional Licence Application Form with your new name and / or address, completed and signed
  • - 2 identical passport sized photographs, signed on the reverse
  • - A Marriage Certificate, if the change of name is due to marriage.
  • - A Birth Certificate, if the change of name is reverting back to a maiden name.
  • - A Solicitor's Letter, confirming the change of name, if the change is by Deed Poll.
  •  

    There is no fee required for this application.

  • My lost Provisional Licence is in date. What documentation do I need to submit to get a replacement ?

    You need the following :

  • - Duplicate Licence Application Form, completed and signed. This form must also be signed and stamped by a member of the Garda Síochána.
  • - 2 identical passport sized photographs, signed on the reverse
  • - Fee € 5

  • What documentation do I need to tax a Small Public Service Vehicle (SPSV) ? e.g taxi

    Small Public Service Vehicle Licences are categorised as Hackneys, Limousines, Taxis and Wheelchair Accessible Taxis. In each case the documentation for taxation is the same.


  • You need the following:

  • - Form [ RF100 ], completed
  • - Confirmation of current Insurance details
  • - Fee [ € 72 per annum ]



  • What documentation do I need to tax a new / imported motorcycle ?
    What documentation do I need to renew the tax on my motorcycle ?

  • You need the following:

  • - Form [ RF100 ], completed
  • - Confirmation of current Insurance details
  • - Fee


    When the vehicle has been taxed for the first time, a Vehicle Registration Certificate will then be issued to the owner by the Vehicle Registration Unit in due course.

  • I am selling a vehicle myself and it is registered on or after 1/1/1993. What do I need to do ?
  • You need the following :

  • - Part B of the Vehicle Licensing Certificate [ Form RF101 ], completed
    or
  • - Reverse side of the Vehicle Registration Certificate must be signed by the seller and the new owner of the vehicle and sent to :

  • The Vehicle Registration Unit,
    Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government,
    Shannon,
    Co.Clare


    Details of the Change of Ownership will be updated by the Vehicle Registration Unit. The new owner will then receive a Vehicle Registration Certificate in their own name in due course.




  • I am selling a vehicle to a dealer and it is registered on or after 1/1/1993. What do I need to do ?
  • You need the following :

  • - Part B of the Vehicle Licensing Certificate, [ Form RF101 ], completed

  • or
  • - Reverse side of the Vehicle Registration Certificate must be signed by the seller of the vehicle and given to the Motor Dealer.

  • A Notification of Transfer of Vehicle Ownership to a Motor Dealer [ Form RF105 ] must also be signed by both parties and sent to :

  • The Vehicle Registration Unit,
    Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government
    Shannon Town Centre,
    Co.Clare


    The Vehicle Registration Unit will temporarily transfer ownership of the vehicle to the Dealer until such time as the vehicle is sold on by them. In such circumstances the Dealer is not categorised as being a registered owner.


    When the vehicle is sold on by the dealer, the Vehicle Licensing Certifcate or Vehicle Registration Certificate (where applicable) must be signed by the new owner and sent to the Vehicle Registration Unit (address above). The new owner will then receive a replacement Vehicle Registration Certificate in their own name in due course.




  • What documentation do I need to tax a new / imported large public service vehicle (LPSV) ? e.g bus
  • You need the following:

  • - Form [ RF100 ], completed
  • - LPSV licence (Article 60 licence in the case of a school bus)
  • - Certificate of Roadworthiness
  • - Confirmation of current Insurance details
  • - Fee


  • When the vehicle has been taxed for the first time, a Vehicle Registration Certificate will then be issued to the owner by the Vehicle Registration Unit in due course.

  • What documentation do I need to tax a new / imported Motor Caravan ?
  • You need the following:

  • - Form [ RF100 ], completed
  • - Confirmation of current Insurance details
  • - Fee [ € 78 per annum ]

    When the vehicle has been taxed for the first time, a Vehicle Registration Certificate will then be issued to the owner by the Vehicle Registration Unit in due course.




  • Under what circumstances do I need a Certificate of Roadworthiness ?
  • A Certificate of Roadworthiness is required for certain vehicles namely:

  • Mechanically propelled vehicles, registered for one year or more, used for the carriage of passengers with more than 8 seats, not including the driver e.g. a bus
  • Goods vehicles, registered for one year or more
  • Goods trailers, registered for one year or more, having an unladen weight exceeding 1,524 kilograms
  • Ambulances, registered for one year or more
  • Note : If you do not have a current Certificate of Roadworthiness for a vehicle that would be included in any of the four categories listed above, you cannot tax the vehicle. You must have the vehicle tested by an Authorised Tester. A list of Authorised Testers in the Waterford area is available from your Motor Taxation Office.




  • I wish to change the name and/or address on my vehicle documentation. What do I need to do ?
  • If you hold a Vehicle Licensing Certificate or a Vehicle Registration Certificate for your vehicle, you should enter the details of your new name and/or address on the reverse side of this document and send it to :

    The Vehicle Registration Unit,
    Department of the Environment, Heritage & Local Government,
    Shannon Town Centre,
    Co. Clare


    Your new details will be updated and the replacement Vehicle Registration Certificate will be sent to you outlining the changes in due course.

     

    If you hold a Registration (Log) Book for your vehicle you must send it to your local Motor Taxation Office together with a note detailing the change of name and/or address. Your details will then be updated and the Registration (Log) Book will be returned to you.

     

    Note : In the case of a change of name, one of the following must also be submitted:
    1) Marraige Certificate - if change of name is by marraige.
    2) Birth certificate - if you are reverting to your maiden name.
    3) Solicitor's Letter - if you are changing your name by deed poll.




  • I have changed the engine in my vehicle. What must I do to update my documentation ?
  • You need the following :

  • - Change of Particulars [ Form RF111 ] and send it to your Local Motor Taxation Office together with one of the following, whichever is applicable:
  • - the Registration (Log) Book
  • - the Vehicle Licencing Certificate
  • - Vehicle Registration Certificate
  • - For private vehicles, a letter from a garage comfirming the serial number and size of new engine
    OR
  • - For goods vehicles, a weight docket confirming the weight of the new engine

  • For vehicles with Registration (Log) Books, the new details will be updated on this document by the Motor Taxation Office and returned to the owner. In all other cases an updated Vehicle Registration Certificate will be issued to the owner by the Vehicle Registration Unit in due course.

You need the following :

  • - Application for Replacement Documents [ Form RF 134 ] declaring what document(s) have been lost
  • - Have this form witnessed and stamped by a member of the Garda Siochana
  • - Fee

Vehicle Licensing or Registration Certificate €12

Tax Disc €6

Certificate of Roadworthiness (light) €3

Certificate of Roadworthiness (heavy) €7
