Rents and the Rents Scheme

All persons who are tenants of Waterford City Council are obliged to pay rent. The amount of weekly rent is based on the income of the household, with allowances being given for any dependents in the family. Calculations are made in accordance with the City Council's 'Differential Rents Scheme' and are designed not to cause hardship for tenants.

As payment options, tenants can choose from the following to pay their weekly rent:

  • By deduction through the 'An Post Household Budget Scheme'.
  • At Rents hatch at the Housing Office, Bailey's New Street.
  • By Standing Order through their bank / building society / credit union.
  • Through the Money Advice & Budgeting Service (MABS).
  • Online - Contact the Housing Office for your PIN.
  •

Further details on each of these payment options may be obtained at the Housing Office, Bailey's New Street. A detailed document on our Rents Scheme for 2011 is here.

We encourage any tenant who is experiencing difficulty in making rent payments to contact either their Revenue Collector or staff in the Rents Office to discuss the matter. Any discussions are conducted in the strictest confidence. Waterford City council does have an Arrears Management Policy document – available for viewing here.
