The Sports Development Office works closely with both Waterford City Council and Waterford Sports Partnership. The Sports Development Officer is on secondment to Waterford Sports Partnership, but each year a Student Sports Development Officer is employed to work with the Sports Development Officer.
The main focus of the work for Waterford City Council is the 'Happy Hearts Programme' which is a programme of in-house physical activities designed for the staff from all areas of the City Council.
The Happy Hearts Programme runs annually from April to July and as many staff as possible are encouraged to participate in a wide range of activities such as tennis, soccer, pitch & putt, aerobic classes, and more.
Through Waterford Sports Partnership , the Sports Development Office offers:
- A comprehensive information centre for sport and active recreation in Waterford.
- Opportunities for training to anyone involved in sport or active recreation.
- Funding schemes for training and development.
- Programmes for many different sectors of society to engage in.
