Did you know that Waterford City Council was one of the first local authorities in the country to develop an archive ? It's not surprising when you consider the city's long, rich and varied history. Much of the material has been listed and searchable databases for some categories of records are being prepared on an ongoing basis.

At present the principal holdings include :

  •  Waterford Corporation records, 1650s-1990s.
  •  Maps of Waterford city and the surrounding area from the 17th century onwards.
  •  Plans & drawings of many city buildings, both built and proposed, 18th century onwards.
  •  Over 5000 photographic prints of buildings, streets, events and people from the 1870s on.
  •  School records of Mount Sion, St. Patrick's and Manor (St John's) Primary Schools.
  •  Waterford Chamber of Commerce records, 1780s onwards.
  •  Harbour Commissioners records, 1810s-1970s.
  •  Airmount Maternity Hospital records, 1820s-1950s.
  •  Over 90 small, private and institutional collections.
